Coughs And Splutters

Now that I’m a Big Girl, I don’t use the potty any more.  I use the Big Girls’ Toilet.  We’ve even put the potty away because Baby Sister is just way too small to think about that and she still wears nappies.  Imagine that! Nappies!

So, I’d done what a girl’s gotta do the other day, and Mummy said I must wash my hands. I ran away shouting, “I won’t!” (I used some hand gel from the change bag, don’t worry – I’m not totally gross!).
Later on that evening, Mummy asked me to come and brush my teeth.

“My daddy says I mustn’t,” was my response.  Mummy came after me.

“Chatty,” she said, “Come and brush your teeth!”

“NO! My daddy says I don’t have to!”

“Why ever would Daddy say something like that?” Mummy asked.

“BECAUSE IT COUGHS!”

Really, I wonder about Mummy sometimes.  I thought she was quite bright but she just looked at me blankly.  She ought to have a handle on these household things in her position.  I took pity on her and stopped shouting to try and explain it more clearly.

“Daddy says water coughs money.  So I don’t need to brush my teeth.”

We’ve agreed that I will brush my teeth, just turn the tap on only when I’m ready and then not leave it running.  I can wash my hands, too.
